Frequently Asked Questions about the E-Z Fit Dress
How do I embellish the dress?
Options include: machine or hand embroidery, appliqués and trim. We offer Celtic iron-on
and sew-on patches …. The sky’s the limit! We recommend that you select an
embellishment which will fit between the princess lines to allow the dress to be altered. If
something is permanently affixed over the seams, alterations will be more difficult, if not
impossible, defeating the purpose of the E-Z Fit Dress!
Will you embroider on the dress for me?
Unfortunately, we currently do not have the manpower to offer custom embroidery services
for these basic dresses. Part of the reason we are offering this new product is we cannot
answer all the email inquiries about custom dresses. While CustomDancewear’s
specialty is custom Irish Dance dresses, keep this in mind: once you get into custom
work, prices go up considerably.
What about a cape?
We do not offer capes for these dresses. However, we do sell poplin by the yard. As long
as the yardage is ordered at the same time as the dress, we will ensure that the fabric
comes from the same bolt. A triangular cape can easily be created from 2 different fabrics
which coordinate nicely with the dress. One or both of the fabrics can be the same as the
dress, or you can utilize glitterdot, lame, lace, or other interesting fabric that you find at your
local fabric store.
A lot of your dresses have a contrasting hem facing – can I get one on the dress I
order?
These dresses do not come with a hem facing. We want customers to be able to shorten
the dress easily - having a hem facing makes this a much more difficult job. If you would
like to add one yourself, we can send you instructions on how to make one for your dress.
Can our school use this for all their dresses?
Certainly, but please be aware that we cannot guarantee that differences in fabric dye lots
will not occur – vendors change or go out of business, colors are discontinued, etc.
Are other poplin colors available?
If you are interested in a color that we do not currently stock, please email us. Better yet,
mail us a swatch of the desired color. If our current vendors offer the color, we may be
able to accommodate you!
Do you sell the same color combinations over again?
Certainly. But how you choose to embellish and accessorize your dress will make your
dress unique and very personal. As you’ve probably already seen, the colors and themes
in Irish dancing are quite common!
I received an email stating that the color combination I chose is not available. Why not?
We do not offer the color combinations of dance schools for whom we currently design
and make school dresses. If you love the colors, you may want to consider reversing them
– try the inside color on the outside, and vice versa.
How can I make the dress longer?
Alas – although it is easy to make the dress shorter, the same cannot be said about
making it longer! The full flare design necessitates a baby hem, which prevents the dress
from being lengthened by releasing the hem. However, if the dress is too tight, and then
altered to be larger in circumference, often the dress will “drop down” and look longer on
the dancer. Also, when shoulders and sleeve length are appropriate, the dress length is
not as noticeable. Black tights always help, too! It is possible to add a hem trim or band
to the dress, but this must be done in a manner which looks like it is part of the design.
Finally – an affordable Irish Dance dress in the colors you want!
The E-Z Fit Dress™ is a unique princess line garment that is easily altered. It may be
solid or two-tone - available in most of the polyester poplin colors that we offer. In most
cases, the dress ships within 7 business days of your order!
We are able to offer these dresses at an incredibly affordable price because we provide
no customization. You personalize the dress to suit your budget and your dancer’s
taste - you add any embellishments, you create a coordinating cape, if desired, and you
alter the dress when needed.
Extra seam allowance in the side seams, sleeve underarms and shoulder princess
lines allow the dress to be made larger to accommodate dancers of different sizes,
and/or to provide growth room for years of dancing. The sleeve hem is generous, too.
Alternatively, the dress can be made smaller!
Here’s an example. We put our 12 year old dancer in a Girls’ size 10 E-Z Fit Dress.
She’s miserable – can’t breathe, can hardly zipper the back. Shoulders, chest and
waist are tight, sleeves are short. (Her expression is real!)
Less than an hour later, our dancer looks more than respectable and would have no
trouble dancing! We let out all the seams and sleeve hem. Now that the sleeves and
shoulders fit, the dress doesn't look quite as short! And at least we’ve bought some
time before her new dress arrives!
